Hey People
Ive been writting for a few years now and been thinking about this story for ages but ive finally think ive got it right this time. This is ONLY a draft though but id thought id share it :) enjoy...
Amber was riding her bike home. Her legs did try to peddle as much as she could; hearing the rush of the wheels and feel the tiny bumps on the handle bars as she raced along. The area was grassy and hard to cycle on. She could just feel them upon her, the great castle looming in front of her like a beast.
The bicycle suddenly came from under Amber and she was gliding through the air towards the ground. Once hit, she couldn’t move an inch yet they were coming closer. She could just about see Noah running after them, shouting something she couldn’t quite hear. It was too late though and the last thing Amber remembered was Noah screaming.
Suddenly there was a jolt and she was woken up in the real world, on a train. There was a rustle of paper and the only other passenger, a young man, was looking at her.
“Have a nightmare did you missy? Never mind was only a dream not real.” He smiled and went back to his paper. Amber just grunted in return and went to look out of the window. She couldn’t stop looking at her reflection. Not that she was vain or anything but she just couldn’t see why people would stare at her sometimes. She had bright auburn hair that burned in the sunlight, gray eyes that were quite set apart with freckles over her nose. Yet she was quite a tall girl for her age and slender.
Trees rushed past with rolling hills and little streams. Occasionally she would see a fox just slinking off into the distance. Amber looked back at the guy opposite her, reading the paper. There was another jolt but this time it was bigger. The man looked at Amber and as soon as she made eye contact with him the train abruptly started turning over on its side. For Amber though it was like watching it in slow motion, newspaper fluttered in mid air, her hair was floating, even the guy in front of her was out of his seat as though he was in space. Amber blacked out.
When she finally opened her eyes, it was blurry. The pain in head was magnified about one hundred times. She put her hand to her head and felt a wet warm feeling, she must be bleeding.
“Where am I?” There was a rustling and a man shaped figure came into view.
“It’s ok your still on the train, it turned over. You’ve been out only about half an hour but they should be on their way. Erm I don’t think you should be doing that missy.” Amber was slowly getting up. She could see that the seats where now on the ceiling, the lights on the ground flashing. When she turned around to ask the man another question, he was looking at her funny.
“What’s wrong? Why are you looking at me weirdly?”
Your-your-your eyes. “
“What about them?” her hand went to her head as though she was trying really hard to contain the pain there.
“There gold!” Amber just stared at him.
There gold? They can’t be!” The man got her a piece of glass to show her. It was hard to see but she could make out her hair but most of all she could make out these huge eyes that were not her own looking back at her. They were so gold that they were sparkling. Suddenly the pain got worse and she could she her pupils turn to slits. Amber screamed louder and louder.
“Calm down. Just try to calm down! You’re scaring me!” the man was crying, on his knees next to her. Amber just couldn’t calm down though, she just couldn’t do it. Next thing she knew there was a light, almost blinding and she blacked out once again.
Amber slowly opened her eyes and saw the familiar wallpaper of her room. She sat up onto her elbows and looked around. The pink and purple quilt still wrapped round her, lavender from her pillow filled her nose. Amber looked out at the window and saw a clear blue sky with no clouds.
“Amber?” Her Nan shouted up from downstairs.
“I’m fine Nan just another of those dreams.” Amber rubbed her forehead; she had been getting these dreams a lot lately. Wasn’t just one dream but two that she was waking up from, it made her feel dizzy.
“Breakfast is ready dear.”
“Ok I’ll be down in a minute!” Even though she was twenty (which in many eyes was sign of adulthood) her Nan still insisted that she made her breakfast every morning. Swinging her legs out of the covers she put on her fluffy pink slippers and her white dressing gown. As she opened her bedroom door, a whiff of sweet flavoured porridge hit her nostrils. This was her favourite breakfast out of the many that her Nan made during the week. She was so glad it was Saturday.
Amber turned the corner when she got to the bottom of the stairs and found her Nan at the dining table pouring out a hot pot of tea. As she walked down the corridor her Nan looked up and smiled “Would you like some sugar with your tea?” even though her Nan knew her like the back of her hand, she always asked her if she wanted sugar with her tea. This time she was going to be adventurous and have two instead of the usual one.
“Two please Nan.” Her Nan frowned at her.
“You don’t normally have two, what’s the matter?” Amber rubbed temples and sighed.
“Just been having those terrible nightmares again Nan, nothing to worry about because there isn’t much I can really do about it.”
“Well if you’re sure, will you be alright going out tonight? I don’t like your friends very much.” Not this again Amber thought. Every time she did anything with her friends her Nan would disagree with her. It was only because one time they had left her on her own in a night club and this guy had started chatting her up but he would take no for an answer. The doormen had to chuck him out and she had to make her own way home. But she had forgiven them because it had only happened the once.
“Yes I will be fine Nan. I have to go its Dawns birthday.” She ignored the comment her Nan made of her friends.
“Just make sure you get home ok then.” Amber rolled her eyes as her Nan left the kitchen to sort out the garden.
The five star hotel was too much for Noah to take in. It was too shiny and the lights were just too bright. He was sitting in the suit that he and Claudia had taken for the week to find this person. She was however taking too long to sort out her hair just so that they could go to this night club. They had been dragons far too long to see what their human side looked like, things had to change. Noah was a taller than most men, with dirty blonde hair swept back and baby blue eyes.
“Claudia, will you hurry up? Surely it doesn’t take you this long to get ready. We aren’t even sure she is the right one the old guy told us about.” As the bathroom door opened, steam parted to reveal Claudia. She was wearing tight jeans with boots and a low cut top. Her very white blonde hair was tied up on the top of her head and she had heavy eye makeup. Noah however didn’t take much notice.
“Noah first of all he is called the old one not the old guy and second you know he is always right so why would he get this wrong?”
“Actually he’s been wrong once before and who’s heard of a golden dragon? No one!” Claudia moved to the couch where Noah was sitting. Her boots make noises across the floor.
“It is because she is very rare like he said. She can call all the elements at once, which we cannot. The first of our kind, which is why she will save us.”
“Pft not like we really need saving, we can just walk out when we like really.” Claudia hit Noah across the head.
“Ow! What was that for!?”
“For being an idiot.” Noah was rubbing the back of his head.
“You still didn’t need to hit me for it. You heard what Jacob said we can leave when we like we are not bound to him and yet you still think he would kill us if we do?”
“He would give every chance to kill us if he could.” She was looking out of the window to the people down below, deep in thought.
“Well then we better get a move on if we want to find her at this club in town.”
Amber was waiting outside the club for her friends, who were late yet again. She was shivering, even though she was wearing jeans, boots, a sparkly top and a big coat. Finally her friend Dawn came round the corner.
“Sorry darling, I had to get my makeup done and you know how long that takes.” Dawn came up to her and kissed her on each cheek. She had grown up in France with her very wealthy parents who worked in fashion.
“That’s ok but maybe next time you should start to get ready earlier?”
“Maybe darling. Have I introduced you?” Amber finally looked behind Dawn and saw a couple she hadn’t seen before.
“No you haven’t.”
“This is Maria and Tom, they work with my parents sometimes and I promised to show them the limelight here.” Amber waved at them shyly.
“Let’s go in shall we?” Maria drawled.
Once they had gotten into the club, Amber had gone straight to the bar to buy herself a cocktail. Dawn and the rest were talking to other people they knew as usual. She downed the first one and asked for another. Why was she here again and with dawn? She was starting to think that her Nan was right about Dawn and that maybe she could find better friends. Come to think of it she hadn’t had much in the way of friends during her lifetime. The only one she remembered was Noah but that was a long time ago now and she doubted he would recognise her. In fact she doubted that she would recognise him!
It took a while for Noah and Claudia to get into the club.
“Finally we are in, shall we go our separate ways and look for her or go together?”
“I think we should stick together, you don’t know how unstable she could be. One of us might not be enough to hold her back.” Noah gulped at this bit of information. Claudia was scanning around intensely when suddenly she stopped and was looking at someone at the bar. Noah tried to look at her properly but he couldn’t make her out very well in the gloom.
“Do you think that is her?” Claudia however is a moon dragon so she is able to see in the dark better than him. He was more of a nature dragon.
“Yes I do but I think we better wait. She has company.” Noah looked again and saw two men come up to her. She kept shaking her head at them but they weren’t taking no for an answer. Noah went to climb down the stairs towards her but Claudia grabbed his arm.
“Wait, she may be able to handle it.”
“Yeah well as soon as she feels she can’t cope, I’m going down there.” Noah couldn’t stop looking at her, he swore he had seen her before but where from? Who was she really? And could she really be trusted with saving the dragons. Claudia noticed what Noah was up to and she had never seen him take an interest with a girl as much as he was giving this one.
Suddenly they saw her turn around at them and looked like she almost was growling at the two huge guys. Her eyes were bright golden which stood out in the darkness and yet no one else had really noticed. The two guys stared at her and ran away in fear. She then looked at herself in the mirror behind the bar with horror on her face. Amber stood up, the bar stool crashing to the ground and she ran out of the club.
“Quick Noah, after her!” He ran down the stairs and across the dance floor to the exit at lightning speed. As soon as he came out of the door, he looked one way and then the other but he had lost her. He was just a few feet from the alley way entrance at the side of the club when he heard some whimpering. Noah turned round and saw Amber up against the wall with those two guys again but this time they were holding knives.
“Come on show us those pretty eyes of yours again.” One of them sneered.
“Yeah show us, we won’t hurt you.” They both laughed.
“What are you guys doing to such a pretty lady?” before they could turn round to see who it was, there was a huge gush of wind and he was suddenly in the middle of them. He looked straight in Ambers eyes as the two guys fell to the floor. Amber could have sworn that he was the kid in her dreams but he was older. Surely that was impossible?
“Don’t worry, we won’t hurt you. We are here to help you deal with what you are going through at the moment. My friend Claudia will be here in a moment hopefully.” Amber wasn’t afraid she just wished she had gotten her coat.
“Ah here she is now.”
“Sorry I took so long, I figured you would be ok on your own and I thought she would need her coat.” She heard the voice before she saw her but when she did she gasped. Her eyes were silver and she had startling bright white blonde hair. Yet her skin was fairly tanned and all her clothes black.
“Have you explained anything to her?” Claudia strutted over to Amber.
“Here take your coat.” She passed it over to her. She took it and quickly wrapped it round herself.
“What is happening?” Amber just about managed to ask.
“You are in great danger but we will explain everything when we get to somewhere a bit warmer. Will you trust us?” Amber looked from Noah to Claudia. He had saved her and both of them seemed to know what she was going through at the moment. On the other hand she didn’t know who they were, she didn’t know if they were going to do the same as they did to those guys on the floor.
“I don’t trust you at the moment, not until I know more. However I will come with you as long as you promise me that we can do it at mine?” Claudia and Noah looked at each other. Noah just shrugged.
“Sure. We don’t see why not.”
Ambers Nan was really starting to worry now because Amber said she would be home by at least twelve. She knew she shouldn’t have stayed up and tried to have gone to sleep instead. There was a crunch of gravel and a car pulled up onto the drive way. Her Nan rushed to the window. It was not a car she recognised. Amber got out first followed by a pretty little blonde haired woman and then a man got out of the driver’s side. A crease in-between her eyebrows appeared. She recognised the man but just couldn’t figure out where from. Maybe he just had one of those faces.
She rushed to the door to let them in. “Amber! Where have you been!? I’ve been sick with worry!” Her Nan ran to her and gave her a big bear hug.
“I’m fine Nan, I just bumped into some old friends that was all and they wanted to come back to mine for a catch up.” Her Nan looked behind her and nodded her head at them. They nodded back and Noah waved.
“He’s hot; you should try it with him and see how it goes eh?” She whispered at Amber.
Through gritted teeth Amber replied “No Nan.” She turned back to Noah and smiled. Noah just looked at her confused.
“Well can’t they just come back tomorrow, it is rather late?” Her Nan basically shouted that out which made Amber jump out of her skin. Claudia stepped forward.
“Miss...?”
“That’s Mrs to you! I’m Mrs Baker and I own this house so would you please come back tomorrow at a more decent time?”
Claudia looked at Noah in that way again, then turned to Ambers Nan and said “Sure we can come back tomorrow at lets say 9 in the morning? “ Claudia didn’t want to harm the old woman.
“That would be a perfectly good time to come, wouldn’t you agree Amber?”
